The Asian and Pacific Federation of Organization
for Cancer Research and Control (APFOCC)

The Asian and Pacific Federation of Organization for Cancer Research and Control (APFOCC) is the main body of the APCC, which is held biannually in the Asia Pacific region.

In 1972, the Asian Federation of Organizations for Cancer Research and Control (AFOCC), the forerunner of APFOCC, was founded under supervision of Dr. Kunio Ohta, Professor, Department of Pathology, Tokyo University, Japan. Dr. Takeshi Hirayama was appointed to the Secretary General of the AFOCC to give assistance to the new-born APCC in 1973 until standing on their feet. The AFOCC was renamed APFOCC (Asian and Pacific Federation of Organizations for Cancer Research and Control) since 1979. In 1995 Dr. Kunio Aoki, Nagoya, Japan, tentatively took over the Secretary General and transferred to Dr. Jin-Pok Kim, Seoul, Korea, in 1996. Since 2001 Dr. KazuoTajima, Aichi Cancer Center Research Institute, Japan took over the Secretary General of the APFOCC.

In total 19 APCC conferences were held biannually in 16 countries from 1973 to 2007. The 20th APCC is held in Japan. From the WHO statistics, recent cancer burden is growing up in Asian and Pacific countries. To maintain regular meeting of APCC, active members of other organizations were invited to the APCC and they contributed to seminars and training programs scientific conferences.
